Bordered on the north by Coahuila, to the northwest by Durango, Nayarit on the west, east to San Luis Potosi and Nuevo Leon, and south to Jalisco and Aguascalientes. The capital is the city of Zacatecas, which is considered the great colonizer of northern New Spain4. It has 58 municipalities and its main economic activities are mining, agriculture and tourism. The state is known for its large deposits of silver and other minerals, its colonial architecture and its importance during the Mexican Revolution.
